這位出自音樂世家、1963年參加可樂汽水主辨的業餘歌唱比賽獲得冠軍、及已累積了很多公開演唱經驗的菲籍女歌手，雖然不時在麗的電視(RTV)的歌唱節目中演唱了近三年還未能打出名堂來，但她不斷的努力最終是沒有白費的。1975年中，EMI為杜麗莎出版了她的首張個人LP《Teresa Carpio》，以翻唱剛在香港上映不久的電影〈沖天大火災 (The Towering Inferno)〉主題曲"We May Never Love Like This Again"作主打。唱片推出後反應極佳，不僅她的"We May Never Love Like This Again"演繹版大受歡迎，連帶唱片中的其他歌曲"Conversations"、"I’ve Got The Music In Me"、" I Can't Believe How Much I Love You"、"Could We Start Again Please"、以至"Sad Sweet Dreamer"等皆是當時電台DJ的熱播歌曲。同年十一月，她簽約無線電視(HK-TVB)，主持後者專為她製作的個人節目「杜麗莎與你」，來取代「温拿狂想曲」。憑着無線電視(HK-TVB)的慣性高收視率、廣播電台DJ(尤其是商台)的大力吹捧、繼後新灌錄唱片的高銷量、加上她個人的專業及出色唱功，杜麗莎終於走上了她在七十年代中的大紅大紫之路。
1979年，隨着粵語流行曲逐漸成為了香港樂壇的新主流、的士高音樂進入高峯期、本地歌手翻唱西洋歌曲被樂迷受落程度大減等趨勢下，杜麗莎在過往數年間取得的美好成就，無何避免地已步進了她歌唱事業中的一段低潮，更兼與HK-TVB在續約條件的問題上談不攏。約滿後，她毅然離港前往美國，並於當地結婚及稍後誕下女兒TV，完結了她在七十年代香港樂壇中的光輝一頁。
